I started working for DBM SA in April 1994, my first ship was the Atlantic, she was being converted to a mining vessel. After almost a year in Cape Town I was placed on the Louis G Murry, the first crawler vessel. I then moved back and front between the DBM SA vessels from 1997, Spenser Bay, Douglas Bay, Grand Banks, Pacific and the Coral Sea.
My mother was an inspiration to me, she never gave up in caring for me and my four siblings. I lost my father at a very young age. Life was tough for my mom and us and I could see the pain and worry in her eyes. Mom always said, “respect goes a long way” and I never understood it at that time.
Hilla started working at Debmarine Namibia in 2005 and was mainly involved with the Mineral Resources and Operations Departments of the company where she developed a background in Diamond Sorting and Short Term Mine Planning.

Dale Ekmark has over 23 years of domestic and international experience in the mining and other heavy industry. He has spent over two-thirds of his career working in large open pit operations, in both operational and corporate leadership capacities. He is a highly successful leader with a combination of strong technical expertise, focus on employee-centric mine safety/risk management and operational optimization. A common theme throughout his career has been the strong and lasting culture transition to a highly engaged workforce resulting in top-tier safety and operational results.
After a 30 year career in Engineering and Operations Management at the complex Smelter inUmicore Precious Metal Refining, Wim founded his own company in Operational Excellence ( located in the South of Italy ), from where he now advises other metal recycling operations spread over the whole world. His experience and vision about how to run pyrometallurgical operations is recognized in many other parts of the non-ferrous business.
Mr. Bodyfelt is the Kinross Gold Corporation Director of Health and Safety for North and South America. Cory has over 23 years’ experience in the mining industry, 16 of which were in Mine Operations. He has lead safety throughout all levels of the Kinross organization, from Front Line Supervisor to Director.
Benoit Chassagne began his career at International Paper in 2014 as supply chain operations manager for their paper division in EMEA. Prior to that, Benoit held various leadership positions in the field of international distribution, global logistics, warehousing, manufacturing and sales & customer service. Benoit worked in many different countries throughout his career including Ireland (Dublin), Canada (Quebec City), Holland (Rotterdam), Belgium (Brussels) and he is currently working in the United-States (Memphis).
Robin Hurst is the vice president of Projects for Southern Company’s Technical and Project Solutions organization (T&PS). He leads a team of approximately 250 project managers, construction managers, and field coordinators in planning and implementation of major capital projects and O&M retrofit projects across the generation fleet in Alabama, Georgia, and Mississippi.
John Sims, after serving seven years in the U. S. Navy’s Submarine Force and reaching the rank of LCDR, began his career with International Paper in 1994 in the Liquid Packaging Business. John has held various positions in International Paper including technical services manager, sheet plant manager, director of supply chain, and director of sales & business management.
Tim Baker, formerly COO of Kinross, is Chairman of the Board at Gold Star Resources. Tim is a director of Antofagasta PLC and Sherritt International and is a registered member of the Institute of Corporate Directors. Tim is a geologist with over 30 years of global project development and operational experience including in Chile and Tanzania where he was Executive General Manager for Placer Dome.
Jennifer Bailey is director of safety and health for Alabama Power Company. In this role, she oversees the creation and implementation of an action-oriented safety and health strategy for the organization, which includes Generation, Power Delivery and Corporate. She ensures the safety and health policies meet all federal, state and local regulations while providing risk assessments, training oversight and data- driven safety performance analysis and trend reporting. She is a certified industrial hygienist and a certified hazardous materials manager.
Lea Ann Hjetland is responsible for Human and Organizational Performance within Southern Company. In this role, Lea Ann is responsible for supporting SCS Operations, Alabama Power and Southern Gas. Formerly, she was the Safety and Health Manager for SCS Operations. She began her career as a Safety Coordinator working for an automobile manufacturing company in Hopkinsville, KY in 2003.

Lauren is a proven mine operator with an unwavering commitment to safety, the environment, and operational excellence.
Steve is an Australian mining engineer with over 35 years of extensive international experience in both the operating and business aspects of the mining industry. Until recently he was the Chief Operating Officer for Goldcorp Inc. with responsibility for their 16 mining operations and projects throughout the Americas.
