Jennifer Bailey is director of safety and health for Alabama Power Company. In this role, she oversees the creation and implementation of an action-oriented safety and health strategy for the organization, which includes Generation, Power Delivery and Corporate. She ensures the safety and health policies meet all federal, state and local regulations while providing risk assessments, training oversight and data- driven safety performance analysis and trend reporting. She is a certified industrial hygienist and a certified hazardous materials manager.
Prior to joining Southern Company in 2015, Bailey served as the safety manager at American Cast Iron Pipe Company (ACIPCO), a position she began in 2003. In this role, she was responsible for execution and management of corporate safety and health programs and critical strategic initiatives, serving as the primary liaison between executive management, employees and regulatory agencies. While at ACIPCO, Bailey was a leader in developing safety and health programs in the foundry industry in Alabama. She served as chair of the safety committee for the Alabama Cast Metals Association from 1997 to 2011 and as chair of the environmental/safety committee for the American Foundry Society (AFS), Birmingham Chapter from 2003 to 2007. At the national level, she participated in the AFS 10Q safety committee from 1997 to 2003.
Bailey has also previously worked at Citation Corporation, Boral Bricks and the state of Utah Division of Occupational Health and Safety, in a variety of safety leadership positions.
In 2007, Bailey was named by U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao to serve as the management representative on the National Advisory Council for Occupational Safety and Health (NACOSH), which was established under the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 to advise the secretaries of labor and health and human services on occupational safety and health programs and policies. Members of the 12-person advisory committee were chosen based on their knowledge and experience in occupational safety and health.
Jennifer earned a bachelor’s degree in environmental health from the University of Georgia and a master’s degree in public health from the University of Utah. She is pursuing her Ph.D. in interdisciplinary engineering at UAB where she also served as an adjunct professor for students in the Advanced Safety Engineering and Management Master of Engineering program from 2011 to 2015.
